Extractions
The main goal of dentistry is to preserve your natural teeth and keep them healthy for as long as possible. There are times, however, when it is in your best interest (or your child's) to have a tooth extracted (removed).
Tooth extraction is often times a very routine procedure. How straightforward this minor surgery is will depend on where the tooth to be extracted is located in the mouth, and what its roots are like. Regardless, tooth extraction is nothing to be feared when done by an experienced dentist like Dr. Visscher.
Frenectomy
A frenectomy is a simple surgical procedure that eliminates or reduces the soft tissue that connects your lip to your gums (labial frenum) or your tongue to the floor of your mouth (lingual frenum). Most people have heard of the term tongue tied, which refers to the lingual frenum. A lingual frenectomy is generally only performed in young children if an abnormally large lingual frenum is causing issues with eating or speaking. This procedure is very simple and can be done in our office after consulting with our dentist.
Socket Preservation
Also known as bone grafting, this technique is used after an extraction and/or before an implant to preserve the socket where the tooth was once. The body is very efficient and will immediately start remodelling an empty socket, leading to bone loss in the area. Socket preservation is intended to prevent this. This is a very important procedure after extraction of a tooth, and our dental team will discuss this procedure as a part of your treatment plan.
